Di Marzio confirms talks with AC Milan over £70m striker deal

Liverpool’s recent priority has been pushing through a British-record move for Alexander Isak. The Reds opened talks last Friday with an offer of around £120m for Newcastle’s star striker—insufficient to tempt the Magpies—but indications are they’ll return before the window shuts. Multiple reports suggest a fee in the region of £135m could get it done.

With more than £260m already committed to new arrivals this summer, sporting director Richard Hughes will likely need to engineer several exits to accommodate Isak. Luis Díaz has already joined Bayern Munich for roughly £65m, while Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhín Kelleher, Nat Phillips, and Jarell Quansah have also departed.

Núñez linked with a move

Darwin Núñez remains widely tipped to leave. Proposed moves to Napoli and Atlético Madrid have collapsed, and until the weekend it looked as if Saudi Arabia—specifically Al-Hilal under Simone Inzaghi—would be his destination.

Milan make contact

However, per Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan have emerged as serious contenders and have already sounded out Núñez. “Milan’s first choice for attack is Darwin Núñez,” the report states. “The Rossoneri have made an attempt to sign the Liverpool player, but negotiations remain difficult. Al-Hilal are also interested, but Milan have already spoken to the player. The Saudi club hasn’t submitted an official offer yet, though they remain attentive to the situation.”
