Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand’s son has signed his first professional deal with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Ferdinand’s legacy
Rio Ferdinand joined United from Leeds in 2002 and went on to make 455 appearances, scoring eight goals. During a glittering spell at Old Trafford, he won six Premier League titles and lifted the Champions League in 2008. He left in 2014, spent a season with Queens Park Rangers, and retired the following year.
Lorenz Ferdinand’s first contract
Following in his father’s footsteps, Lorenz Ferdinand has taken the professional route and penned his first contract. According to TalkSPORT, “Rio Ferdinand’s oldest son, Lorenz, has signed his first professional contract with Brighton.” Since 2022 he has been part of the Seagulls’ academy, featuring for the U18s and U21s. The 19-year-old also spent part of last season at Havant & Waterlooville on a work-experience loan.
Lorenz has played 20 matches in the U18 Premier League and represented Brighton in the FA Youth Cup. Marking the moment on Instagram, Rio wrote: “Very proud moment for the family, Lorenz signing his first professional contract. We are all so proud of you.”
Other United alumni families on the rise
Wayne Rooney’s son, Kai, recently scored for Manchester United in the SuperCupNI, while Michael Carrick’s son, Jacey, was also involved. Current U18 coach Darren Fletcher has his sons Tyler and Jack impressing in the academy as well.
